TWENTY-ONE, CODDLE THE INFECTION, DRUMMER, MELLOW, JEYDON WALE, STRAIGHTISH
Fox Mercury Damian-De Luca got his name under unusual circumstances. He was named Fox for Jimi Hendrix’s song “Foxy Lady”, a song one of his dad’s would try and sing and dance to whenever he was high. Fox became an ongoing joke between his fathers’ and they couldn’t help but name their son after the song. Mercury comes from Freddie Mercury from Queen, more specifically the song “Bohemian Rhapsody” for the same reason as “Foxy Lady”. Mercury is also a play on one of his dad’s hippie names (will be mentioned later). On February 14th Fox celebrated his twenty-first birthday. With two parents who are ex-musicians, it’s no wonder Fox is on tour. He is pretty diverse with his musical talents, but some are significantly more developed than others. His weapons of choice are the drums, though he can play guitar and piano as well. He has always prefer drums over everything else and plays for Coddle the Infection.
Personality: One of the first things people notice about Fox is how happy he is. Fox is an optimist to an almost disgusting level, finding good in just about any situation. His life hasn’t always been picture perfect, but he has learned to find the positive in all of the bad things. Fox has a pretty cheerful outlook on life and always has words of encouragement for the pessimistic friends he has. In some sense this is a bit naïve of Fox, since he tends to live in this “everything is okay” world of sunshine and daisies. It’s not that he isn’t able to see the reality of a situation, it’s that he cheese not to in order to make himself or others feel better. Fox is just really good at finding the silver lining, though sometimes even he has moments of doubt.
When Fox gets upset or angry, or anything other than happy really, it’s usually pretty rough. It doesn’t happen often, so when it does there is a big flood of negative emotion that he had been holding back for long periods of time. While he is happy with his life and his family, everyone has their breaking points. Fox isn’t afraid to cry in front of people, so when he’s feeling down he will surround himself with his most cherished friends and cry in their laps about pretty much everything. Fox loves his life but sometimes it’s hard, which is understandable. Seeing Fox upset is rare and usually ends up throwing people off, but by the next day he’s back to his usual self. Overall, Fox is a pretty mellow person so it takes a lot to get him bothered.
What is Fox’s usual self? Someone who is very sarcastic. Someone who looks like Justin Bieber and gets mistaken for a flaming homosexual on a regular basis. Fox is rarely ever serious and ninety percent of the time what he is saying is just a joke. Fox comes from two very sarcastic parents, so it’s only natural that he has picked up on that extreme sense of humour. There are very few boundaries to the wisecracks he will make, and sometimes he doesn’t recognize when it’s something that shouldn’t be joked about. If you’re someone who can’t handle sarcasm, you’re definitely not going to be able to handle Fox. Most of what he says is sarcasm, teasing, and him being generally cheeky. Fox’s sarcasm often borders on being disrespectful depending on who you are.
Part of Fox that he tries to hide from people when they first meet him is how trashy he can be. Fox has a vocabulary that would make a sailor blush, which he tries to unleash on people in small doses. He also has a tendency to make perverted jokes and innuendoes a lot, though he does it merely for the laugh. For the most part, the trashy aspect of Fox’s personality is simply his humor. He rarely means what he says and that’s easy to tell if you know him well enough. Fox is simply a person who will talk about anything, no matter how disgusting it may be.
Over the years Fox has become a very sympathetic person. Having been through some rough periods in his life, he finds that he can easily relate to the pain of others. Fox won’t hesitate to pry into someone’s personal life if he sees that they are upset, even if it’s a complete stranger. It’s one of the few times when Fox will be completely serious and sarcasm-free. Fox wants everyone to be happy, so he tries to make people feel better by being able to understand what they are going through. Fox can relate to a lot too, and if he doesn’t he is usually pretty good at putting himself in other people’s shoes. Fox is a very understanding person, and he really doesn’t mind acting as the world’s therapist. Because of his sympathetic nature and upbringing, Fox has a complex where he needs to help everyone. If he had the attention span he would be a doctor, so instead he sticks to acting as a therapist for his friends and sometimes even strangers. Fox enjoys taking care of people and is quite good at it when the person will let him. However, Fox doesn’t often take care of himself in turn. He simply doesn’t pay attention, but it usually isn’t a problem given that he is pretty damn healthy.
History: Ash and Sebastiano had a very strained relationship from the start, if you could even call it a relationship. Meeting on a tour both of their bands were in, they were both pretty trashy people who slept around a lot, so they started as friends with some serious benefits. When they did start dating there was a lot of emotional struggling to be done on Ash’s side of the spectrum. Seb’s bipolar episodes were out of control for a brief period of time, causing a huge rift in their relationship. They took a break to sort out their problems, and when they finally got back together things seemed pretty normal for a while. They started fresh and the deaf Sebastiano had recently activated cochlear implants to help him out, and Ash had a better outlook on Seb’s mental illness. Things were pretty settled for a while, and they continued to be the trashy couple everyone loved them as. It all changed when they had a threesome with a mutual friend named Angela, who came to the boys a month later telling them she was pregnant. At first they were happy for her, until she informed them that one of them was the father, but which one was questionable. This immediately sent Sebastiano into a depression. He had made it very clear that he never wanted children, too many mental disorders hereditary in his family. He was terrified of the child being his and having all sorts of mental issues. He was also terrified to become a father, because he really wasn’t ready for that. Neither Seb nor Ash were ready for a kid, so the next eight months were spent trying to mature. Well, Ash tried, Seb was depressed for the entire pregnancy, barely having anything to do with Angela.
Angela was pretty understanding of the situation Seb was in, though her own position was a pretty rough one. There was no way she would be able to support the child, but she knew that Ash and Seb could. Sure, they were a little immature and very trashy, but she trusted them. (Which probably wasn’t a good thing.) She told them that they could name the baby and made sure that both agreed to be a prominent role in the child’s life if they were the father. Despite being very against the pregnancy Seb agreed that he would be in the kid’s life, thinking it would just be visiting every now and then sort of stuff. Ash was definitely the bigger man out of the two and spent the pregnancy manning up. When the child was finally born they was a lot of mixed feelings about the baby boy. Seb hated him instantly, while Ash was pretty excited about it. Angela was indifferent, already knowing that she wasn’t going to be a big part in the boy’s life anyways. A blood test was done and it came back that Fox Mercury was Ash’s son, which helped to bring Sebastiano out of his depression a lot. There was much less risk for mental problems with Fox that way, so he could accept it. It wasn’t until it was too late when Angela said that Ash and Seb were going to be taking care of baby Fox, since she didn’t have the money or the means to. Ash agreed, Seb was pretty irritated by it. He was forced to deal though.
The first few months were a huge struggle for both Ash and Seb. Ash wanted to keep up his music career, while Seb stopped his to chase after his first love of computers. He became a computer programmer, which paid pretty decent money, and let Ash have the spotlight for a bit longer. For the first year or so of Fox’s life he was being taken care of by Uncle William or Grandma Keira. For a while Sebastiano didn’t really do much bonding with Fox, not really interested and too busy being stubborn and psycho. He struggled with the drastic change in lifestyle that came with having a baby. Ash did his best to help Seb through it, being pretty chill about the situation. He handled his boyfriend like an expert, and after almost a year Seb was finally taking responsibility with Fox. Once they got into a routine life was back to being simple for them, or at least as simple as it got. They actually started having fun being dad’s, Ash teaching Fox to call Seb “mum” from an early and innocent age because of Seb’s long blond hair.
For the most part, Fox had a pretty spoiled childhood that wasn’t without female figures in his life. His parents had accumulated a decent amount of money, enough to give the tiny boy what he asked for. They weren’t exactly the most model parents in the world, still pretty immature and acting more like friends than parents, but they made it work. His “stand in mother” was the manager of the band Seb and Ash were in, a woman named Jane Ophelia. Fox, like a lot of people, called her Ophiemum from a very young age and quickly grew to think of her as his mother rather than Angela. Fox was a pretty happy little kid, a bit on the pudgy side but happy none the less. From a very early age he learned how to deal with Seb’s bipolar episodes, having always called his parents by their names unless he was kidding around. By now Sebastiano was cool about being a dad, but there were still times when he broke down and had episodes. Ash dealt with them expertly, having enough experience with his schizoid mother to know how someone mentally ill worked. Ash usually did a good job of keeping Fox away from Seb when he had his episodes, but Fox always managed to sneak a peek at how they worked. Fox didn’t understand what was going on at the time, but he understood that it was best to stay clear of Seb when this happened.
It wasn’t until he started school when Fox started realizing how different his family was from everyone else’s. He had been pretty sheltered from the ridicule his parents got, being a gay couple with a son. Not everyone was as accepting as Seb and Ash’s families had been, but Fox had never seen that when he was younger. The farther Fox got in school the more he began to understand, and of course he talked about this with both of his parents. From the start Fox had always known Angela was his mother, not Seb like Ash tried to teach him, but it was all explained to him in detail when he was about nine. He didn’t understand all of it, of course, but he was happy with it none the less. He liked having two dads. It was fun. He also didn’t mind that Angela wasn’t a bit part of his life. Even though some people thought it was wrong, Fox was very happy with it. In first grade Fox met Gunner, a boy who would quickly become his most loved friend. Gunner had Williams Syndrome and was in the special education class, and during lunch one day Fox saw some older kids shoving him around and kicking his stuff down the hallway. There was no one else around so Fox tries to stop the older boys. A fight broke out and fox got his ass handed to him, but his intent was there. The older boys got suspended and Fox got a warning, a grounding, and a new best friend. Gunner and Fox were inseparable after that.
By age eleven or twelve getting into fights was very common for Fox. People bugged him about him about having two days and would bully him for being “gay”. Fox also started to develop quite a stoner voice, sounding like he was baked all of the time. People also bugged him about one of his dad’s being psycho, which was usually what ended up sending Fox off of the deep end. At first he tried to just ignore their taunting, but eventually he couldn’t take it anymore and started fighting back. He got in trouble for it countless times, but Ash and Seb were never the ones to punish him. They were quite proud of their feisty little boy, since both of them had had to get their brother’s to do all of the fighting. He didn’t mind being bugged about his developing stoner voice or having people assume he’s gay because his dads’ are, but he didn’t like when they brought up Seb’s bipolar disorder. That was crossing a line, since it was a very sensitive subject. After all, Fox had been screamed at and called some very horrible named by Seb when he was having his episodes. Fox, for the most part, understood that Seb couldn’t control himself. He just told himself that he didn’t mean the horrible things he said and took out his frustration on his drum set.
With two musical parents, it only made sense that he was taught how to play. Seb taught Fox to play the drums, while Ash taught him guitar and Uncle Danny taught the piano. He didn’t take much to the guitar, but he learned none the less. He really liked being able to spend time with his family and playing music, being silly with it most of the time. Fox never thought he would go anywhere with his playing until later in high school when people started pointing out to him that he was actually pretty good at it. High school was a pretty rough time for Fox though. People were crueller about his family and teachers constantly assumed he was high because of his stoner voice. His parents would be called in on a regular basis to discuss Fox’s apparent drug use, never believing them when the gay couple reassured the teachers that Fox wasn’t doing drugs. Ash himself had been through this when he was a kid, with eyelids that were too large for his eyes causing his eyes to look permanently stoned. Fox became frustrated with the constant assumptions of being a druggy and being gay, which he most certainly knew he wasn’t. Fights were even more common now but Gunner made it worth it. He could go to his Gunner’s place and act like he was a kid again. Really, it’s no wonder Fox recently got a TATTOO of a baby dragon on his chest to commemorate the guy.
And now, here Fox is, in a band with five more tattoos than he ever planned on having. On top of the dragon he also has AN APLACA behind his right ear for Ophiemum, an EQUAL SIGN on his right wrist, and some HEARTS on the left wrist.
HEY, MY NAME IS DEE. I HAVE BEEN ROLE-PLAYING FOR ALMOST NINE YEARS. I PLAY ZERO OTHER CHARACTERS, AND HERE'S A SAMPLE OF WHAT I CAN DO;Sebastiano was bored, and a bored De Luca was never a good thing. As kids it meant a trip to Toys R Us with his older brother to go climb up the shelves and see who could get to the top first. It meant sneaking into the neighbour’s backyard to lure her prized poodle into a puddle of animal-safe dye. It meant that Sebastiano was going to get high out of his mind and go to a public place and make an ass of himself, that’s what it meant. Seb had been questioned by dozens of people dozens of times what his parents would think if they knew he did weed, and he always had the same answer. It had been their damn idea. Yeah, Keira and Easy weren’t exactly in line for Parents of the Year. The last time he had seen them they had lit one up in the basement, his older brother included, and had a contest to see who could not laugh the longest when a soap opera was turned on. Sebastiano’s family was far from picturesque, but he loved them dearly. He wouldn’t trade what he had for the world, though it would be nice to have a little extra cash every now and then. Even then, Seb didn’t mind being dirt poor. It had taught him to value what he had rather than covet what he couldn’t have. He wasn’t spoiled at all, in fact he was quite the opposite. In Seb’s opinion his parents dysfunctions had taught him way more than any school could ever teach him. He had learned valuable life skills, like dodging art supplies when they were chucked at you and the best hiding places for lip reading in on the “adult conversations”. Okay, so perhaps those skills wouldn’t be very handy in the long run, but they were handier than learning about poetry.
School bored Sebastiano. He was so sick and tired of it. The logical solution was to actually apply himself so he could skip a grade and graduate early, if he was lucky. Of course, he would never do that. He didn’t care enough to bother doing something like that. Sebastiano enjoyed the social aspect of school, but he didn’t enjoy his classes. He had a higher IQ than most of his teachers, which wasn’t very reassuring. He didn’t feel that they were fit to teach him if he was clearly more intelligent than them. Arrogant? Very much so. He didn’t really have anything to learn from them though; it was all review for him. He had learned about some of this stuff when he was in third grade at the fancy schools his grandfather had sent him to. Lincoln High School wasn’t challenging enough for him. So what did he resort to? Breaking rules and doing drugs. Writing essays was always a challenge when he was high, because he had to battle severe hunger to get them finished. For the record, five to eight hundred words wasn’t an essay. Three thousand words was a fucking essay.
The tiny blonde boy had skipped his last class of the day to find a safe place to light up a joint, not wanting to bother his room mate with the smell any more than his clothes would. The smell would linger on his signature pink sweater and Batman tee shirt, sure, but he didn’t want to bug poor Max with the smoke in their shared dorm. He had more respect for the kid than that. He was long out of his safe place by now though, having wandered to the closest park following figments of his imagination. Pulling out the cell phone that barely ever left the palm of his hand, he sent his best friend ever a stoned text telling him where he was, spending his time waiting sitting on a bench with his knees to his chest. His face was buried in his knees muffling the peals of giggles coming from him for no apparent reason. Such was his life.
